1968 Plymouth Barracuda PROTOTYPE: The MULE CAR: The first of the Fastest #mecumauctions #mecum
Super stock drag racing is still a huge and successful class of racing. Back in the day car manufacturers were looking for ways to go faster and were competing against each other at the track and on the street. Nascar was also very popular and where car companies were putting a lot of time and effort.
The need for speed was great and winning was even more important. Skunkworks and prototype cars had always been produced, and this car was no different. This pre-1968 prototype BO29 Plymouth HEMI Barracuda was born. Lightweight components and a big engine!!! This is what it was going to take to win. THE MULE car was born. Somehow this car made it out of Chrysler Corporation and is here before us today. A museum piece, and a piece of automotive history. Without this car, Chrysler may not have continued to pursue Super Stock racing. You have to see the video!
I want to thank Myron, Eddie and Tim for bringing me along to see this iconic car.
The time has come to pass the torch to a new owner of this car. You can see it cross the stage at MECUM on May 17th. What do you think it will sell for??
